DBDOC Project for TNB DBDOC Project for TNB

After the successful implementation of DBDOC in Kapar Energy Ventures, GPCA made another step further for DBDOC in Malaysia. GPCA has been awarded a DBDOC project by TNB for Gelugor Power Station in Penang. The DBDOC project for Gelugor will commence in early August 2008.

The First DBDOC In Malaysia The First DBDOC In Malaysia

GPCA has been awarded the first DCDOC project in Malaysia. The DBDOC will be installed in Kapar Energy for Generation Unit 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. DBDOC has been a unique tool for INFI 90® DCS systems that builds a read-only encyclopedia integrating configuration, graphics, databases, P&IDs, OSISoft® PI® and more. We build a linked document of your ABB® process control system. Key DBDOC functions include: • Trouble-shooting • Detection of errors • Documentation • Process analysis • Training • Recording system changes The entire system is at your fingertips as a unified cross-linked document. Every INFI 90® system needs DBDOC. It complements the ABB® tools, performing additional functions you need. The links between HMI graphics and Composer® and CAD configuration drawings are simple to use in our intuitive browser, HyperView. Simply point and click to examine any aspect of the configuration, graphics and databases. Links connect all the places in the system where each resource is used. Search, browse, print, and zoom capabilities bestow additional trouble-shooting, analysis and documentation power. Help files deliver instant access to extensive help. Many built-in tools and analysis reports from the DBDOC build can help you improve your system.

MatrikonOPC For Honeywell TPS for PT AMI MatrikonOPC For Honeywell TPS for PT AMI

GPCA has installed the new Matrikon OPC Server For Honeywell TPS in PT AMI in Indoneisa. One pair of Matrikon OPC Tunneller was packaged with the project to eliminate DCOM and firewall problems for remote OPC clients. The Matrikon OPC server supports PAS AMO and OSI PI clients in this installation.

MatrikonOPC For Foxboro for Kapar Energy MatrikonOPC For Foxboro for Kapar Energy

We have recently commissioned a Matrikon OPC connectivity solution for Kapar gas turbines.  The new Matrikon OPC Server for Foxboro I/A does not need FoxAPI to be present on the AW work stations to access control data.  There were speed, efficiency and stability improvements in the new OPC.  We now have the option of connecting to either the FoxAPI or a lower level, very efficient component called the Object Manager.  The Object Manager interface is installed and already running on existing AW's.

The Matrikon OPC Server for Foxboro DCS (Object Manager) has many benefits:
  • It bypasses the inefficient FoxAPI to interface directly with the Object Manager
  • Matrikon's OPC Server is a smaller installation
  • Matrikon's OPC Server uses fewer system resources
  • In changing the configuration, the native Foxboro OPC Server uses tag lists, which the FoxAPI will not allow you to dynamically update.
    • Instead, the OPC Server must delete the list and rebuild it, hence an additional time delay.
    • The Matrikon OPC Server talks directly to the OM so we can bypass these lists and avoid the costly rebuild time.
  • Matrikon's OPC Server provides much faster data transmission
  • It provides automatic load balancing across multiple application workstations
  • It provides full redundancy using multiple application stations
  • The resulting performance of our OPC Server is over 5,000 points per second

Wireless DAS Interface For Gas Plant Data Calculation

GPCA has been awarded a project to monitor gas flow and composition data from the gas supply plant at Kapar Power Station. The project involves analog input data collection from the gas plant PLC AO for use in the National Instruments PLC/DAS equipment, logic programming for energy consumption calculation and wireless IP (5.1 - 5.8GHz RF) communication to the KEV SJSSAA administration building. All collected and calculated data will be available on the NI OPC server PC and will be stored in KEV's existing Enterprise Historian system. Wireless solution will be provided by SmartBridges from USA. The project will commence in April 2007.

Wireless TNB Metering Data collection

GPCA has been recently awarded a new project to interface TNB Smart Metering system to the data historian for KEV using 2.4Ghz wireless RF technology. The serial wireless RF modem (from USA) is equipped with a pair high gain antenna can provide wireless communication for at least 20Km near line of sight interface. The system was tested and showed to be able to achieve over 80% signal strength during the trial run (without line of sight). Data reception reliability of the wireless system is close to 98% at the resolution of 2-3s (no L.O.S.). The project will commence in April 2007.

EEI Distributor For SE Asia EEI Distributor For SE Asia

GPCA has signed up as the distributor for EEI, USA. EEI also known as Eldridge Engineering, Inc. is an OPC product application provider based on the .NET technology. EEI has developed a complete suite of open automation software (HMI and SCADA) applcations which are efficient and affordable for all types of industries today.

GPCA will be the exclusive distributor for EEI in South East Asia including Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand. For more information on EEI products, please do not hesitate to contact us for a product presentation.

First Alarm Management System in the Malaysian Power Industry First Alarm Management System in the Malaysian Power Industry

GPCA is proud to announce the success of the first Matrikon Alarm Management project in Malaysia.  The first Alarm management was installed at the Kapar Power station phase 3 in October 2005.  It was then taken one step further and an alarm management philosophy was developed based on the audit reports made possible by the ProcessGuard system after 1 month of data collection.  Today, Kapar phase 3 no longer has to live with the primitive and inefficient alarm reporting system after the successful implementation of their first paperless alarm management system.

Now, with the Matrikon Processguard technology, all the problems above can be solved easily.  The good news is the ProcessGuard does not only manage the alarms but it also keeps your alarms in a server and enables years of alarm historian retrieval.  ProcessGuard is powerful and user-friendly to all levels of users.  Working on MS SQL database system in the background, and excel and web-browser in the foreground enables ease of use to the operators and engineers.  More good news is that the ProcessGuard has been tested and worked on majority of the top DCS products in the market.  On top of that, it has the ability to integrate with process historian sytems such as PI, Citect ot IP21.

The ProcessGuard does a lot more that what has been mentioned above.  It also prepares a range of reports based on top 20 charts in Excel reporting format e.g. top 20 standing alarm over time, top 20 hit rates over time, top 20 chattering alarms, Parent Child alarm with accuracy rating, Chronological alarm report, Operator intervention over time report and much more.

The ProcessGuard is one of its kind.  With the ProcessGuard, there will be no more complaints about printer hardware and consumable problems and it will make the plant operation more efficient by turning the “noise into knowledge”.

In July 2006, GPCA was awarded a plant wide alarm management project from Kapar power station.  At this moment all the steam turbines (ST1, ST2, ST3, ST4, ST5 and ST6) in Kapar are equipped with Matrikon Processguard.  In January 2007, Kapar's open cycle GT will also have the Processguard system installed.
